From the Snow Desk. Day 1 of the Perfect Storm…

Today is Friday, March 7th, at 1:30 p.m.  The radio stations, as well as news on (local-ish) TV, especially the Weather Channel, are having a heyday with the impending “storm” that promises to be the worst of the season.  Luckily, I ran errands early this morning, so I’m in for the duration, and savouring the aroma of simmering beef stew in the crockpot, and fresh ciabatta bread.

Thanks to the city, our street is still not ploughed and at the end of our driveway is a rather deep pool of ice water and slush that is stagnating because the drains are all blocked with more slush and/or ice and snow.  The Mercedes managed to get itself stuck for a minute or so in the cesspool yesterday, so while it’s pretty good ON snow and ice, I guess it’s not altogether designed for traction in deep slushy ice/water.  Interestingly, Ellen’s Beetle (with the best snow tires) just bulldozed its way through.  What a gem that little car is.

Mid-morning, light snow began, but now it’s coming down with some determination.  It’s only -1, so it’s not sticking as much as it could, I suppose.  Apparently, the Niagara Peninsula is to see 30 to 50cm by the time this storm moves on - sometime early Sunday.

Bev, I hope you, Tia and Jess manage to leave Buffalo tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Frustration Ends

I spent another 20 minutes reading and re-reading the damn Mercedes manual yesterday trying to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong with the phone.  As it turns out, I was doing nothing wrong - the manual describes the procedure solely through the MB system, which isn’t the easiest way.  Since that method definitely did not work, I resorted to my phone and sent all the vCards over from it after some fiddling around.

End result:  All vCards are now in the MB phone book and I must say that once the MB kicked in and accepted the Bluetooth transmission from the phone, all worked quickly and the vCards are in.

I like having Bluetooth in the car, especially when it comes to hands-free calls.  Far easier to answer and make calls without having to rummage around to first find the phone, then look up the number in its contacts list, or dial the numbers while trying to drive.

iPod integration next…
